ECB Catch-up | April 2022

Hi there

I trust this update finds you well, even in these uncertain, unpredictable times. The Minister has just announced that we move to the Orange Traffic Light setting at 11.59pm tonight. We have been at the red setting since 23 January, so this will be a relief for many, especially those in the hospitality and events industries.

As a reminder, Orange means there are no limits to gathering numbers, either indoors or out. Face masks are encouraged but not required at gatherings and customers do not need to be seated to be served in a hospitality venue.

We have quite a bit happening in the electorate. I've listed a few things below. One to note is Auckland Transports proposal to make some streets paid parking. I personally think this is a terrible idea and have put in my own submission expressing this.

I'm also aware there are families in isolation at the moment, and isolating can be pretty tough. ECB Bake is still running. Read about it below and let us know if you'd like some baking delivered!

Paid Parking in Browns Bay

Auckland Transport is proposing to change some streets in Browns Bay to paid parking - Beachfront Lane, Clyde Road, Service Lane, and a section of Anzac Road (see map below).

The town centre is struggling enough without adding barriers for people to come visit and support local business.

Public submissions are open until Sunday 17 April. Please take a moment to share your thoughts with Auckland Transport by clicking the button below and making a submission.

Glenvar Road Update

Many Glenvar Road locals have been asking what's happening with the road and the intersection with East Coast Road.

We finally received an update from Auckland Transport about the progress of this much needed upgrade. Construction program is due to start late 2023/early 2024. Detailed design work will be undertaken for the next 12-18 months.

We are aware that Auckland Transport is very low on funds at present. We are continuing to monitor their progress on this as we want to make sure it stays a priority and goes ahead as planned.

Meanwhile my office has been on to Auckland Transport about the potholes. AT told us in the past when this issue arose that they would keep an eye on the road and undertake maintenance as required. Clearly this isn’t happening. We will keep on their case to ensure the potholes are fixed.

ECB Bake

Omicron is still in our community and I am aware that you, or someone you know, is at home isolating. And let’s be fair, isolating can be well… pretty darn isolating.

Thankfully we live in an amazing community with people who are ready and willing to put their hand up to help those in need.

I have a group of brilliant volunteers who want to show their support. If you live in the East Coast Bays, we'd love to give you some baking. That’s right, some delicious, homemade baking delivered right to your door.

We’ve already delivered a number of packages to people’s homes in the East Coast Bays. A big thank you to my volunteer bakers and Gilmours North Shore for donating the boxes. What a special and amazing community we live in!

If you are feeling isolated, vulnerable or alone, or know someone who is, please email my office. Alternatively, if you are a keen baker and want to volunteer your time and ingredients, send an email to my team too.

And don’t forget, we are still available to do groceries or pick up prescriptions for you. Please don’t feel like there is no one to help or support you during this time.

Take care and please feel welcome to contact my office if you need any assistance.
